South African Dream turned NZ Nightmare

Leizl and her family are from South Africa. Today, she bravely shares how, after arriving in New Zealand, her husband’s first hunting trip almost cost him his life.

This week’s show is a reminder to us all of how quickly things can go wrong in life, even to beautiful people who have worked so hard to make their dream life happen in New Zealand.

Today, we speak with one of our NZ Ahead community members; Leizel and her family are from South Africa. Today, she very bravely shares the story of how, after arriving in New Zealand, her husband went on a hunting trip.

That trip went horribly wrong. It left Leizels husband, Russell, fighting for his life in Waikato Hospital, NZ.

This episode is sensitive and emotional.

It is the story of how a South African family, thousands of miles away from the place they once called home, coped in New Zealand at such a terrifying time.

This episode is a testament to the New Zealand emergency services. To the healthcare system and the staff involved in Russel’s recovery.
